Minutes from the Monthly Meeting of the
Doylestown Business & Community Alliance
Held December 9, 2003 8:00 a.m.
Pine Run Community
Diane Bochenek opened the meeting and began introductions. Diane
thanked Joyce Hanson and Pine Run for hosting the December meeting
each year.
Lynn gave the treasurer's report. The DBCA has made great strides.
This year we established a budget with year end report. This report
will be presented at the January meeting.
Committee Reports:
Diane reported that Santa's arrival went very well in spite of the
rainy weather. She thanked the many volunteers who spent time in
October and November to prepare for this night. Next year we will
have new decorations for the light poles.
The dates for planting the flower baskets will be announced in
the future.
5K Race will take place in May, Brian Boger will chair this committee
again this year.
Bill Mount said he would chair the Arts Festival this year if we
could pay his
secretary for all the paper work involved in this festival. The
Board of Directors is discussing the options. We need many volunteers
for this event.
Barbara Dommel passed away in November. It was actually the day
we were putting up the tree in Town Center. A donation was made
to Delaware Valley College in Barbara's name. John Davis said that
Borough Council was considering naming one of the new parks in Barbara's
memory.
This fall some of the town center merchants went together to do
holiday advertising. They had two events, Friends & Family night
and Midnight Magic. Diane attended the meetings as a representative
of DBCA. It is our hope that we will be able to get more of the
town-center merchants to join. One of the items that came up at
these meetings was parking. Diane reminded them about the $50.00
six month permit for parking at the meters with the yellow band.
Diane asked John to check with Borough Council about free parking
during the holidays. It was approved by council for the Saturdays
during December plus the week of Christmas. Parking on advertised
streets will be free. It has been advertised in the newspapers and
a banner is up at Starbucks. Chestnut Hill has a similar program
and it is very successful. Ellen Mager thought we should reopen
the town center committee we had a few years back. She also asked
if we could place an ad in the papers thanking the many volunteers
that help with all the activities the DBCA sponsors. It's important
to keep our name out in the Community. The vent would also be a
good place to thank volunteers.
Bruce Rutherford had a few people to recognize and thank for their
help. Lynn Phelps- Treasurer, Joyce Hanson- Miles of Mules, Barbara
Gross- Membership.
John Davis, Borough Manager was the guest speaker. John spoke about
the increase in the meter tickets and the reasons for the change.
The fine will go from $2.00 to $5.00. This is being done for both
monetary and enforcement issues. The meters were installed in 1946
and the fine was $1.00. In 1978 the fine was raised to $2.00. The
second offence will remain at $15.00. The change is being done to
encourage people to park for two hours and not to feed the meters
all day. The borough has a sticker program where merchants buy stickers
for their customers. Each sticker gives 30 minutes free parking
on the Hamilton street lot. These stickers can be purchased at borough
hall. The borough also has a citizens guide to parking -- for information
please call borough hall.
