Doylestown Fall Arts Festival

Minutes from the Monthly Meeting of the
Doylestown Business & Community Alliance
Held October 12, 2004 8:00 a.m.
Borough Hall

Diane opened the meeting and began introductions.

The minutes of the September 14, 2004 meeting were approved as recorded.

Lynn gave the treasurer’s report. Total revenues $38,262.93, total expenses $39,006.61. These numbers do not include the 5K Run and the Fall Arts Festival. The operating account has balance of $14,745.60.

Ed Ludwig was our guest speaker. Ed is from the Doylestown Historical Society. It was started as a committee of the Revitalization Board.

Old Business:

Diane spoke about the different options that are still being considered for the new Justice Center. At present the center will most likely be across from the present courthouse. It would be built on the present parking lot and then build a new parking lot. A lively discussion took place among the members. Of the many options, the members in attendance all agreed that the distance between the new parking garage and the center of Doylestown is vitally important. The membership is supportive of the plan(s) that keeps the parking garage as close to ‘town center’ as possible. Kurt thanked Diane for all the work she has put in on behalf of the DBCA. Rick Kempes made a motion to authorize the President and the Board of Directors to communicate the DBCA’s views to the County Commissioners and other interested parties, as the President and Board may deem appropriate. The motion was passed by the membership in attendance.

It is important to return parking surveys to the Borough, please put the date on them.

Committee Reports:

Kurt gave the Merchants committee report. The next scheduled event is Midnight Magic. The date is December 10. The advertising will be three full-page ads in the Intelligencer, and two full-page ads in the Inquirer. There will be entertainment. Kurt thanked all who participated in the flags for the September event. The flags will be used at various events in the future. Kurt spoke about the events in the center of town. There were some complaints about the street closings during the September event. The Borough said they are trying to work with all different groups. The Merchants committee meets the 1st Wednesday of each month on the second floor of County Linen. Please use the entrance from the Hamilton street parking lot.

The Visitors guide maps can be picked up at Booktenders Secret Garden and County Linen.

Pam gave the Publicity report. This year there will be a good amount of publicity because we have new decorations for the light polls and also a large dreidl for town.

The Hanging Baskets are down. The job was a little shorter this year, as we didn’t have to replace the flowers with holiday flowers.

Bill Mount could not give his report on the Fall Arts Festival because we were running long on the meeting and Bill had to be at an appointment. The Festival was cancelled on Saturday because of heavy rain. Sunday was however a beautiful day and the festival was great. The Univest Grand Prix bicycle race was a nice addition to the Festival.

New Business:

The First Night committee is looking for people to help plan this year’s event. The event is called “Light the Night”. Contact the Central Bucks Healthier Community Team.

Diane had a call from a teacher at OLMC School. She is looking for a volunteer project for her students.

Leslie Bilotta thanked everyone for their kindness to her as both of her parents passed away recently.

Reminder: Sunday, November 14 we will be decorating Doylestown for the holidays! We very much need volunteers. We will meet at 9am at Starbucks. If you are able to help, please email Bobbie Newton- bsmnewton@comcast.net.

Next meeting November 17, 2004, 5:30 to 7:30 at Aldie Mansion, cost $25.00.

The December Meeting will be the traditional Breakfast Meeting at Pine Run Community on December 14, 2004 at 8:00 AM.

There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.
