Minutes from the Monthly Meeting of the
Doylestown Business & Community Alliance
Held October 14, 2003 8:00 a.m.
Doylestown Borough Hall
President, Bruce Rutherford welcomed everyone, and those present
introduced themselves.
Treasurer's report: Lynn Phelps reported that year
to date in 2003 DBCA has income of $21,578 and expenses of $23,798
which does not include payment for the flowers. Arts Festival figures
are not included in these totals.
Committee Reports
Arts Festival: Bill Mount, chair, reported that the
event suffered its 1st significant rain ever. The crowd was resilient
but some crafters suffered from the rain. 164 crafters purchased
some 178 spaces making this the biggest Arts Festival ever; West
Oakland was used for crafters. Fire lane was built in to the tent
layout which proved fortuitous for emergency vehicles. There is
some disagreement over what the arts festival is all about and some
merchants have complained. Bill feels that the festival is about
getting people in to town so they will return at other times of
the year. Estimated net on event is $10,000. 2004 will be Bill's
last year as chair of the festival and he is retiring from his business.
He has contributed his secretary's time spent on the festival but
will not be able to do that in the future. He estimates that time
to cost about $5,000 and is suggesting that that time be paid for.
The DBCA Board will consider that suggestion.
Annual Meeting/cocktail party: Bruce R. reported that
invitations have been mailed out for the October 29th function scheduled
from 5-7 p.m. at Aldie Mansion; the cost is $35.00.
Holiday Decorations: Diane Bochenek reported that
DBCA will use the pointsettias again. And October 19 and 26 are
the dates to dig out the flowers from the flower baskets; meet in
front of Starbucks. Students helped organize the trailer and test
lights. Decorating will be November 16 at 9:00 a.m; meet in front
of Starbucks. Next year we will be looking for new decorations.
Also the holiday committee plans to be more inclusive in its decorations.
Membership: We have 237 current members which includes
128 resident members.
Website: Pam Mikula noted that the historic photo
contest is running on the website; no numbers on how many people
have entered. The winner will be announced next week.
Revitalization Board: The next meeting will be this
Thursday; Bruce plans to attend.
Announcements: Joyce Hanson announced that Pine Run
is sponsoring a Festival of Trees from November 17-21; tree sponsorships
are still available.
Linda Plank announced that Doylestown Hospital is having an Auction
of goods and services Nobember 7th; tickets are still available.
There is no regular membership meeting in November.
