Minutes from the Monthly Meeting of the
Doylestown Business & Community Alliance
Held September 9, 2003 8:00 a.m.
Doylestown Borough Hall
Bruce Rutherford opened the meeting and began introductions.
Bruce gave the treasurer's report. The balance is $20,895.00. This
year we donated $1000.00 to The Miles of Mules project. In the future
the Board of Directors will review each project and decide what
the donation should be. It will then be put on the web site for
a vote by the membership.
Bill Mount gave a report on the Fall Arts Festival. It is the
last weekend in September. This Festival is growing each year. Last
year there were 135 applications and this year there are 177 as
of this meeting. Many of the artists and crafters asked to be placed
in the same spot as last year.
This year will be the first year to have a Food Court. It will be
on the Hamilton Street parking lot. There will be a tent with tables
and chairs for the hungry crowd. Bill has gone to the trouble of
making 6 Mules to show the way to the Food Court. They were painted
by the staff of the Michener Art Museum. Bill thanked Paula Frame
for once again taking care of all of the entertainment. Paula has
done this job since the first Arts Festival.
There will be six entertainment tents sponsored by Thompson Toyota,
Univest Bank, Premier Bank, Eastburn and Gray, Intelligencer, Gilmore
& Associates.
Thompson Toyota ran an ad in Time magazine and it included a picture
of the Doylestown Arts Festival.
The Fall Annual Meeting and Cocktail Party will be Wednesday, October
29, 2003. The cost should be the same as last year - $35.00. Bruce
is moving forward with arrangements.
Diane gave the Holiday decorating report. They still need a large
tree for the corner of State and Main. New decorations for the light
poles have not been settled on yet. The proposed star was thought
to be too religious. There isn't enough time to look for something
else. The red poinsettia will be used again this year. The committee
will set out in March to find something different. 38 volunteers
are needed to put up the poinsettia. Rick Kempes is looking into
ways to get more help in this project. Rick suggested the phone
chain and also the web. The dates are Sunday, October 19th and October
26th at 9AM. Santa will arrive November 28th.
Barbara Gross gave membership report. She has folders if anyone
needs one to give to interested people.
Pam said the web will have forms for people to volunteer for DBCA
projects.
The Revitalization Board has invited the DBCA members to a meeting
on October 1, 2003. The Chief of Police will speak about the situation
involving the behavior by some young people in the center
of town and what can or cannot be done about it. The DBCA will not
take a position on this matter.
Bruce introduced our guest speaker Diana from Reel-Tour.
Doylestown Presbyterian Church received a memorial donation of
$75.00 in Bill Rae's name. Bill passed away recently. Both Bill
and his wife June have been active members of DBCA for many years.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 am.
The next meeting will be Tuesday October 14 at 8:00 a.m. at Doylestown
Borough Hall.
Respectfully submitted, Bruce Rutherford, President
