Doylestown Fall Arts Festival

Minutes from the Monthly Meeting of the
Doylestown Business & Community Alliance
Held August 10, 2004 8:00 a.m.
Borough Hall

Diane Bochenek opened the meeting and began introductions.

Lynn gave the treasurer's report. The account balance is $18,867.02. A check was received from the Borough, in the amount of $4,000, for the holiday decorations. A check in the amount of $1,890 was received from the Merchants Committee for advertising SHOP AND DINE.

Bill Mount gave the Arts Festival report. Everything is moving along smoothly. There are more crafters this year. Paula has been working on the entertainment. Many volunteers are needed. Two volunteers are needed each hour to take care of any needs the crafters may have. The Fire Company will have a pancake breakfast at the firehouse, on Shewell Avenue, Saturday morning. The Univest bike race is on Sunday morning. It is a 50 mile race through the borough. There are 170 racers. If both events work well it may become an annual event. It should help the attendance for the Arts Festival. The Not for Profit groups will pay for their spots this year. The Food Court will be in the Hamilton Street parking lot. Scarecrow Junction will just be on Sunday this year and will also be located in the Hamilton Street Lot. DBCA gives a donation to NOVA for the clothing used for the scarecrows.

Kurt gave the report for the Merchants Committee. July 23rd, SHOP AND DINE, Sidewalk sale and Y2C Arts Thang was rained out. Kurt said there is a controversy about how far in advance of an event the meters are bagged. The committee would like to talk to the Borough about the timing of street closure. Friday, August 27th the Y2C is scheduled for State Street. The next Merchants Committee event will be September 10, 2004: LET FREEDOM RING. Musicians will be on State Street between Main and Hamilton Streets from 6PM to 10PM. It should be a great night. The Merchants committee meets every 1st and 3rd Wednesday above County Linen at 9:00 AM.

Cheryle Hearn sent the report that the Visitors Guides were ready for distribution. 7,000 were printed and a second printing was required. They are in stores, train station and jury lounge. Extra maps can be picked up at Booktenders and County Linen.

Don Stevens thanked the volunteers that helped with the Town and Country Players benefit. The proceeds to DBCA were $1,530.00. Don thanked Kurt from Stuffits and Linda from Doylestown Hospital for supplying the refreshments.

The Hanging Baskets are just beautiful this year. Patty White and her committee did an outstanding job. A date in October will be announced to take the baskets down. This year we don't have to redo the baskets as we have beautiful new holiday kissing balls with lights to replace the baskets.

Bobbie Newton gave the holiday report. The committee is looking for two trees. One tree about 10 feet tall and the other about 15 feet tall. Barbara is working on the Driedl. Everything is moving right along. September 4th, 9AM Bobbie will need some help to check the meter boxes to see what work needs to be done on them. The date to decorate Doylestown will be Sunday, November 14, 2004.

The 5K race was very successful.

The Cocktail party was well received. It was a good event all the way.

There was no update on the Scholarship for a local student. Contact Leslie Bilotta at 267-337-0132.

The parking survey will be mailed in September. These surveys will also be available in the retail shops.

FOR THE CURE, there are five or six shops in town involved to date. It will take place October 2, 2004.

Willow Grove Naval Air Station will have a picnic for service families on September 11, 2004.

Next meeting Tuesday, September 14, 2004, 8AM Boro Hall--Guest Speaker, Community Conservatory of Music

With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
