Minutes from the Monthly Meeting of the
Doylestown Business & Community Alliance
Held May 13, 2003 8:00 a.m.
Doylestown Borough Hall
President, Bruce Rutherford welcomed everyone, and those present
introduced themselves.
Treasurer's and Finance Comm. report: DBCA has $10,368
in checking account; working on 501©3 tax exempt status.
Fiddler on the Roof: Don Stevens reported that 130
tickets have been sold for the May 20th date at Town and Country
Players. Stuffits will provide food; D-town Hospital will provide
beverages; may need a few people to help park cars.
5 K Race: Brian Boger needs 7 volunteers to be marshals
at intersections on May 24th.
Hanging Baskets: Patti White asked everyone to come
out this Sunday to help with hanging the baskets- May 18 at 9 a.m.
at Starbucks. DBCA received a $2000 grant from the Bucks Beautiful
program of the CBCC.
Website: www.doylestownalliance.org.
Pam Mikula asked all business members to visit the website and make
sure there's a description of their business.
Membership: Barbara Gross noted that the membership
drive has wound down but that she has packets for any prospective
members. After June 30 any new memberships will be prorated for
the balance of year.
Miles of Mules: The mule painted by Angela Mikula
is finished and on display at the corner of Court and Main Streets-
a very visible location. It will be there until the fall. On motion
made and seconded: DBCA will give a gift certificate up to $100
to Angela in appreciation of her work; the President will make the
choice of certificate.
Summer Cocktail Party: June 26 at Fonthill's Terrace
Pavilion; $10 charge; a postcard invitation will be sent out.
Holiday Decorations: Cheryl Hearn announced that
we are re-thinking decorations; the Borough was not keen on previous
ideas. We may have 2 part-time Santas. Still looking for 1 tree
(2 others have been offered).
Arts Festival: Bill Mount reported that the festival
is on for the last weekend in Sept- Sept. 27-28. He realizes this
is a Jewish holiday but that weekend has been the traditional date
for the event. Plans are well under way. Food vendors will be moved
into a food court; about 90 crafters are signed up already; Joanne
Maroney will do the scarecrow activity both Sat. and Sun. from 12-4;
event will end Sat at 5 pm instead of 6 pm.; DBCA will need volunteers
for an information table to sell popcorn and bottled water. A better
system to safeguard the cash is needed at this table.
Map: Rick Kempes noted that the map is at the printers
and should be ready by the end of the month.
Revitalization Board: Karen Young of the Revitalization
Board attended today's meeting and provided an informative report.
She noted that the Board has 3 areas of focus: communications, economic
development, and design. Communication is primarily through the
Borough newsletter and the web site "Doylestownborough.net".
The Board also sponsored a mule and students from Linden Elementary
are painting scenes of historic buildings in Doylestown on it. Sign
reduction and consolidation is another project- Green Street has
been done and they are working on South Main Street. The mural on
Sir Speedy is on hold; new kiosk maps are under development. Pedestrian
safety is also a concern. Anyone who has a concern about any intersections
should contact John Davis, Borough Manager.
Next meeting: Tuesday June 10 at 8:00 a.m. at Doylestown
Borough Hall. There will be no regular membership meetings in July
or August.
Bruce Rutherford, DBCA President
