Lynn gave the treasurer's report. $7,000.00 in membership dues
have been received as of March 31, 2004. The invoice has been received
for the flower baskets for 2002 and 2003. The $10,000.00CD was used
to help pay this bill.
Committee Reports:
Rich gave an update on membership. We have some new merchant members
thanks to Kurt Balderson and the Merchants Committee. Rich will
have a more extensive report next month.
Bobbie Newton gave a report on the Holiday Committee. The committee
met in March and put together a proposal and voted to accept it.
They will present this proposal to the membership at the May Meeting.
If it is voted to accept this proposal, it will then be sent to
the Boro for their approval. Santa will arrive at Sate and Main
Streets and then process down State to his house at Hamilton Street
parking lot. Rick made the following motion and Ellen seconded it:
The Holiday Committee proposes to the general membership that the
celebration of the winter season be expanded to include both Christmas
and Hanukah. It is recommended that a 15 foot Christmas tree and
an 8 foot dreidel be placed in downtown Doylestown together to represent
these holidays. It is proposed that these two symbols be placed
next to each other in the garden on State Street near the Hamilton
Street Parking Lot and they be lit simultaneously on the Friday
evening after Thanksgiving when the holiday season begins. Santa's
House would remain at its' Hamilton Street Lot home. To spread the
idea of multiple holidays further throughout the town, it is proposed
that several of the parking meter boxes be repainted to show dreidels.
The motion was passed.
Kurt gave a report on the Merchants Committee. Some new merchants
joined for 2004. First weekend in May is "Build a Bouquet"
on Friday and Saturday when visiting a participating merchant you
receive a flower to add to your bouquet. IN the summer they plan
to have a 'Meet and Eat'. For this event they hope people will meet
in Doylestown and stroll through the shops and have something to
eat at the restaurants. The Committee hopes the shops will stay
open late on Friday nights. This Committee meets the 1st and 3rd
Wednesdays on the second floor above County Linen. Please use the
stairs in the back of County Linen. There will be two additional
events coming this fall. Diane expressed appreciation for the work
Kurt has put into this committee.
The Hanging Baskets are being prepped April 13 and 15. The planting
is April 18 at Del Val. May 23rd is the date to hang the baskets
throughout the town. We need volunteers for this project. Please
come at 9:00 AM, bring a ladder and a friend!
The 5K Race is Saturday, May 29th. Registration is 8AM. Brian needs
volunteers for registration, course marshals and finish line. He
would like to have different businesses sponsor different intersections.
The race will most likely be finished by 11 AM.
