Minutes from the Monthly Meeting of the
Doylestown Business & Community Alliance
Held March 9, 2004 8:00 a.m.
Borough Hall
Diane Bochenek opened the meeting and began introductions.
Minutes were emailed or sent by mail to those without email, if
you did not receive minutes please contact Diane. With no corrections
the minutes were approved as reported.
Lynn gave the treasurer’s report. So far Lynn has received
about $1,300.00 in membership dues.
Committee Reports:
Rich gave an update on membership. The deadline to be included on
the map is March 31, 2004.
The map then can be printed with an up to date membership.
The date for planting the Hanging Baskets is April 18th.
On May 23rd we will be hanging them. Volunteers
will be needed a few days before the actual planting to prepare
the baskets.
Brian Boger gave a report on the 5K race. The race is Saturday,
May 29th. All is going well. This 5K race is the
largest in the county. Volunteers are appreciated, Brian
is one of the few DBCA members that volunteer to help with the race.
If you are able to help him this year,
please contact us. Most of the volunteers are friends
of the runners. Brian will have the help of some of the school students.
This year Brian is asking businesses to sponsor an intersection.
The Merchants committee is looking into having an activity after
the race.
Don Stevens reports that the show at Town and Country Players this
year is a comedy. Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean Jimmy
Dean. Tickets are $15.00. The price includes parking, enjoying local
talent, refreshments by Stuffits and beverages donated by Doylestown
Hospital. Come and enjoy. Last year attendance was 125, this year
Don would like to see 150 attend. See Don Stevens for tickets.
Arts Festival is September 18th and 19th. Everything is going smoothly.
Applications are on the web site. The Univest bicycle race will
be Sunday, September 19th.
Visitor’s Guide deadline is March 31st.
Pam reported on publicity. They are looking to see how best to
advertise what the DBCA accomplishes.
The Holiday committee will hold a meeting at Thomas Travel. They
met with John Davis and the borough has included money in their
budget to be used for the holidays this year. This year’s
holiday celebration will be expanded. The committee is looking at
other towns that already have the expanded celebrations. John Davis
needs a specific report by May or June to be included on the borough
schedule.
Kurt Balderson of the Merchants committee said the committee is
putting together a calendar of events for the year. They meet every
Wednesday at County Linen, enter from rear and go to second floor.
One of the events is the possibility of having a “Building
a Bouquet” walk through town center. If we do several full
page ads over the year the Intelligencer gives a break on the price.
They are also looking into advertising on Comcast.
Joyce Hanson invited the DBCA to be hosts at the Designer House.
She will get the date to us.
Dart tokens are available if your business would like to sell them.
There is no financial benefit for your business, just good will.
Sample letter to write your thoughts about the 202 bypass are available.
March of Dimes Walk at Peace Valley is April 25th. They are looking
for business sponsors and also people to take part in the walk.
Molly Lowell talked about “Behind the Scenes at Fonthill”.
Ellen Mager announced the Gourmet Getaway, March 25th at the Court
House. It benefits Woman in Business scholarship fund.

Boro Hall. Sandra Yerger from the Heritage
Conservancy will be speaking to us about their land and historic
preservation organization, headquartered in Doylestown.
