Minutes from the Monthly Meeting of the
Doylestown Business & Community Alliance
Held February 10, 2004 8:00 a.m.
Borough Hall
Diane Bochenek opened the meeting and began introductions; there
was a great attendance.
Minutes were emailed or sent by mail to those without email. If
you did not receive minutes please contact
us. With no corrections the minutes were approved as reported.
Lynn gave the treasurer's report. 2004 Projected Budget--copies
are available. The cost for the new holiday decorations may be more
than budgeted. We still have an outstanding amount for flowers but
have not been billed to date.
Most of the dates for the calendar of events are set.
Committee Reports:
Rich gave an update on membership. Mailers will go out this week.
It will have a date to return payment. The map then can be printed
with an up-to-date membership.
The date for planting the Hanging Baskets is April 18th and hanging
them will be May 23rd.
Brian Boger gave a report on the 5K race. The race is Saturday,
May 29th. All is going well. This 5K race is the largest in the
county. Volunteers will be appreciated.
Don Stevens reports that the show at Town and Country Players this
year is a comedy. Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy
Dean will be June 9. Tickets are $15.00. See Don for tickets.
Arts Festival is September 18th and 19th. Everything is going smoothly.
Applications are on the web site.
Pam reported on publicity. An ad was placed in the Inquirer's Where
We Live Section. The committee is looking into businesses donating
something to be given away on web site. They are working on a brochure
and coupon book. First Night will be held again this New Year's
Eve.
The Holiday committee will hold a meeting at Thomas Travel. Date
and time will be on the web site.
Kurt Balderson will chair the Merchants Committee. There are about
forty merchants meeting on a weekly basis to revive Doylestown from
the merchants' point of view. Co-op advertising is the main item
this group has done. The two late night events in December were
successful. The goal is to have more events in town.
The summer cocktail party is June 24th, at Fonthill. Volunteers
are needed.
Memorial for Barb Dommel, please call Diane with your ideas. One
suggestion at this meeting was a Barbara Dommel Reading Room at
the Library.
New Business:
Lt. Cummings spoke at last months meeting. Pam and her father met
with Chief Donnelly and Lt. Cummings. Doylestown alive.com is a
link to be set up for merchants to go to with problems so other
merchants can be alerted. It is a joint effort between the DBCA
and web site. No charge to sign up. Open to all merchants DBCA members
and non-members.
The Inquirer Where We Live Section was about Doylestown. Many of
the merchants were included in a full page advertisement.
The Board of Directors approved the Univest Grand Prix in Doylestown
on Sep. 19. The one mile circuit draws international cyclists. Univest
and the Intelligencer are co-sponsoring this event. They will have
to get approval from the Borough.
Heather Walton was the guest speaker. Heather is on the Revitalization
Board. They are volunteers who help to revitalize Doylestown. There
are fifteen members on the Board. Four positions are open at the
present. If interested, contact John Davis at Doylestownborough.net.
This group works to send business information to new residents,
guide and design cultural district, Justice Center and promote tourism.
The next revite board meeting will be February 12, 2004.

Boro Hall. A representative from A Woman's Place will
be our guest speaker. Please bring paper products and used ink
cartridges to donate.
