Minutes from the Monthly Meeting of the
Doylestown Business & Community Alliance
Held January 10, 2006 8:00 a.m.
Doylestown Borough Hall
OPENING INTRODUCTIONS by Jack Mikula, President - Our primary
goal for 2006 will be to make Doylestown a 'Community for Everyone'. We will
reach out even more to youth and the elderly. We will make an effort to work with
various organizations in the community to achieve this, and to involve more
people in our volunteer activities. We should also work toward creating a "DBCA User's
Manual" to make the transition to new officers and board members easier.
TREASURER’S REPORT - Sal LoCicero presented the report.
Our balance (12/31/05) is $22,951.86.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Holiday – Our holiday season activities were very successful.
We had an excellent turnout for Santa Coming to Town/Dreidel Unveiling,
as well as for the Dreidel Dedication Ceremony which, despite the bad weather,
drew an enthusiastic crowd. As an added bonus, both Doylestown and the DBCA
received a great amount of publicity in many publications.
Membership – We need to formulate a strong committee to
achieve our goals. Pam Mikula and Barbara Gross will help with the committee, but
a chairman and more volunteers are needed.
Merchants – Midnight Magic was very successful.
Maureen Tompkins of F.X. Dougherty will be the new committee head.
Publicity – Linda Brinker will be joined by Krisy
Paredes of Doylestown Bookshop.
Fall Arts Festival – This year's festival will
be held on September 9 and 10. The change in date was made so that we
can continue to coincide with the Univest Bike Race, which now will be
a professional event, likely to bring even more publicity and traffic to
our arts festival.
Flowering Baskets – We will be able to use the
greenhouse at Del Val College in 2006, but a new facility will be needed
in 2007. We are working with the Borough to solve this problem. We
received a grant of $1000 from the Village Improvement Association for
our hanging basket program.
GUEST SPEAKER – Jodi Doyle, a Life Skills Specialist
and Lynn Moore, Director of Child Welfare/In-home Services, both with Tabor Services Inc.
spoke about the special problems of children in the foster care system, as well as
children who have "aged out" of the system. The possibility of enriching their lives
via community involvement, such as DBCA activities, was explored.
UPCOMING EVENTS
February 14, 2006 Monthly Meeting, 8am, Borough Hall
This very important meeting will discuss the ongoing problems of vandalism and
related problems in Doylestown. Chip Thome, Borough Council President, will present
the Borough's position, and he is looking for our feedback. IT IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT THAT ALL MERCHANTS
ATTEND THIS MEETING.
