Doylestown Fall Arts Festival

Minutes from the Monthly Meeting of the
Doylestown Business & Community Alliance
Held January 14, 2003 8:00 a.m.
Doylestown Borough Hall

President, Bruce Rutherford welcomed everyone, and those present introduced themselves.

Treasurer's report: Lynn Preblick gave the treasurer's report and announced that a financial committee will be formed to develop project budgets. This development was decided at the recent January 9th Board meeting. The new committee will consist of Lynn, Rich Slavinski, Rick Kempes and project heads. Lynn asked for budgets from the project heads.

Holiday decorating: Don Stevens thanked those who assisted with the January 12th take down of decorations around town and reported that everything ran smoothly and relatively quickly. Don said he would take care of what remained to be done. Considerable coordination and cooperation is needed in this effort.

Membership: Barbara Gross reported that membership packets are ready for any prospective members. She also reported on an organization that seeks internships for young people. DBCA will provide its mailing list of business members for use by this organization.

5 K Race: Brian Boger reported that the 5 K race to be held May 24th is proceeding smoothly. He had a meeting with Ron Connelly and Nurit Bland about the festival after the race. Plans for that part of the project are still under development.

Spring Cocktail party: The dates of June 19 or 26 were suggested as possible dates with Fonthill as a possible location. Pat Senn is assisting with this function.

Website: The Mikulas reported on what they can provide for a DBCA web site. They have a prototype site up and running at www.doylestownalliance.org. Initial set up costs will be $600-900 depending on what is desired with a $350/year maintenance fee. The group present decided to proceed with this service.

Other business: Miles of Mules public art project being organized by the Michener Art Museum: The project is seeking underwriting from businesses and non-profits for fiberglass mules to be decorated and placed on exhibit along the canal corridor. Following discussion it was decided that DBCA will contribute $1000 toward a mule, Heritage Towers will contribute $500, and an additional $500 is needed from another non-profit. DBCA plans to auction off their mule at the end of the project .

Fundraiser: Town and Country Players offers benefit performances for non-profits. DBCA will host an evening- Tuesday May 20th for "Fiddler on the Roof". We will need to sell tickets to cover the cost of the performance. Tickets will cost $15 each.

Bruce thanked the Bagel Barrel for providing coffee and bagels for today's meeting. The Bagel Barrel has offered to do the same for future meetings. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.

Next meeting: will be Tuesday February 11th at 8:00 a.m. at Doylestown Borough Hall.

Respectfully submitted,
Bruce Rutherford, DBCA President
